The Super Seasoned Oak expression utilizes custom barrels made from staves that have been exposed to outdoor conditions for five to seven years. This prolonged seasoning process reduces green tannins, enhances wood permeability, and concentrates desirable sugars within the oak, resulting in a bourbon with exceptional depth, rich spice notes, toasted sweetness, and nuanced dark fruit character.
Beginning in 2016, the Master's Collection is an annual release of limited-edition whiskies that showcases and celebrates the innovation.
The series pays tribute to the distillery’s 1812 heritage while embracing a spirit of modern innovation. Master Distiller Elizabeth McCall explores Woodford Reserve’s five sources of bourbon flavor, selecting a single element — grain, water, fermentation, distillation, or maturation — and pushing its influence to new extremes.
Tasting Notes
Aroma: Rich caramel and vanilla with almond, cherry, and cinnamon-dusted dried red apples.
Taste: A velvet current of vanilla and caramel brightened with a
zesty mix of orange oils, cinnamon, and clove.
Finish: Sweet with warm cinnamon.
